Frank Griffith (tenor saxophone, clarinet), Dean Stockdale (piano), Mick Shoulder (double bass) and John Bradford (drums)

Born in Eugene, Oregon, tenor saxophonist Frank Griffith was, for many years, a fixture on the New York jazz scene. Appearing alongside some of the biggest names in the business, including Ron Carter, Jon Hendricks, Jack McDuff, John Pizzarelli and the big bands of Toshiko Akiyoshi, Mel Lewis, Buddy Rich and Mel Torme, Frank also played lead alto with the Glenn Miller Orchestra.

Relocating to the UK, Frank worked with John Dankworth and Cleo Laine, appearing on their album Jazz Matters (QNote Records, 2009), subsequently becoming an established figure on the British jazz scene. Now based in Liverpool, in addition to guest soloist engagements throughout the UK, Frank leads various ensembles (quartet, nonet, big band). This Lit & Phil concert is a rare opportunity to experience an ‘old school’ American tenor saxophonist in full flight.
