Cobalt Duet and Duo Series (April)

For their monthly duet and duo series at Lit&Phil, Cobalt Duo invite you to perform with them, as part of the programme. Kate and Fumiko hope to programme as wide a mix of music styles as possible and show the fantastic and varied music written for four hands one piano and for two pianos.  

Please submit your repertoire suggestions (and timings for your piece/s) here and email to or drop in to the Library. Kate will be in touch if your piece fits the programme, which might be themed, or have a particular era, or composer focus.

Cobalt Duo are pianists Kate Halsall and Fumiko Miyachi. Kate is a Tutor at the Young Musicians Programme, Sage Gateshead and is a freelance pianist. Fumiko is a Composition Tutor at Birmingham Conservatoire and is based in Birmingham as both a composer and freelance pianist. The Duo have worked together since 2012 and performed across the UK, including for Huddersfield Contemporary Music Festival, Frontiers Festival, Falmouth Arts Centre, Goldsmiths University, CODA festival, Anthony Burgess Foundation, City University Concert Series, Bourneville Concerts and Arts at Trinity Leeds.

They have commissioned and performed many new works, both by professional and student composers, including Judith Weir, Michael Wolters, Naomi Pinnock, Philip Cashian, Katharine Norman, Andrew Poppy, Helen Papaioannou, Leo Chadburn, Egidija Medeksaite, Dominic Murcott, Ruta Vitkauskaite and Anton Lukoszevieze. Their repertoire also encompasses works by composers including Debussy, Ravel, Messiaen, Schubert, Tailleferre, Poulenc amongst others.They have albums released on Divine Art-Recordings and NMC/Birmingham Record Label.

This concert will be the last in the current series.
