Deborah will be  joined by  Nick Butters on piano, Dawn Allen on violin and members of  the Borrowdale Ensemble in Smith’s Bitter Suite.

CHRISTOPHER WOOD (1911 - 1990), was an international pianist who adopted the North as his home

MICHAEL SMITH (1948 -2009), was a North born violinist and violist

Deborah Thorne read music at Clare College Cambridge and studied the cello at the Royal Academy of Music with David Strange and Maastricht Conservatorium with Radu Aldulescu. After some years in London freelancing on both modern and baroque cello she joined the Northern Sinfonia and has been a member of the Avison Ensemble for many years. 

She has lectured in baroque cello at the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama, as well as teaching cello at Durham, York and Newcastle Universities and coaching on National Children´s Orchestra and Pro Corda courses. She has recently joined the teaching staff of the Foundation Studio of the Sage Gateshead.
