This illustrated talk is partly a travelogue with potted histories and photos of those Newcastles who take their name from Newcastle upon Tyne, and of other 'Newcastles' in whatever their language may be, with their own castles and histories. It’s also about the organisation called 'Newcastles of the World' which is based in Newcastle upon Tyne, and which links them all on many types of projects – culture, education and tourism.

David Faulkner OBE studied history at the University of York and spent most of his professional life at Northern Electric (finishing as Director of Personnel and Corporate Affairs) before becoming the Director of Arts & Business for the North East and Cumbria. He had two spells as a Newcastle City Councillor, the second as part of the administration that ran the Council between 2004 and 2011 - he was Leader of the Council in 2010/11. Since retirement from work and the council he has been running 'Newcastles of the World', as well as being a trustee of The People's Theatre, a director of community interest companies The Language Centre Newcastle and International Newcastle, and also being involved in several other community charities.
