A lecture by David Petts

A FREE Lit & Phil Live Event

Compared with other major early medieval monasteries, such as Iona and Jarrow, the site of the early monastery of Lindisfarne has seen relatively little archaeological work. However, in recent years a number of projects have made headway in unpicking the history and development of the site. This new research has started to fill in gaps in our knowledge about the layout of the monastery, as well as insights into the life (and death) of those who lived on and visited the island. David Petts (Associate Professor of Archaeology at Durham University) presents some surprising new perspectives on what we thought we knew about the history of the Community of Saint Cuthbert.
