Being Human Festival: How to Protect Yourself from Witchcraft

Photo of a charm to protect against witchcraft

Wednesday 16th November 6pm

With Emma Whipday and Poppy Corbett

A FREE Lit & Phil Live Event

How do you protect yourself from witchcraft in Elizabethan England – or nineteenth-century France? What do you do if you think your neighbour is bewitching the local well, making your child sicken, or harbouring demons in the shape of household pets? Join Renaissance scholar Dr Emma Whipday and playwright Dr Poppy Corbett as they work with actors to bring voices from the past to life – and explore what centuries-old witchcraft accusations can tell us about rituals and superstitions today.

(If you would prefer to book directly over the phone, please call the Library Desk team on 0191 232 0192 and they will be happy to help)
