Policy of Deceit: Britain and Palestine 1914-1939
Peter Shambrook

This talk focusses on the results of Peter Shambrook’s research for his book, which provides historical context to the present situation in the Middle East, and in particular Britain’s role in Palestine during the 1920s and 1930s.

Peter Shambrook is an independent scholar and historical consultant to the Balfour Project, which works to advance equal rights for all in Palestine/Israel. He holds a PhD in modern Middle Eastern history from the University of Cambridge. Author of French Imperialism in Syria, 1927-1936. He lives in Durham.

Two endorsements:

Deeply researched, powerfully argued and meticulously documented, Policy of Deceit lays bare Britain’s shameful record of lies, broken promises and betrayals that paved the way to the Zionist takeover of Palestine. . .A strikingly fair-minded book about one of the shabbiest and most sordid chapters in the history of the British Empire.’ Avi Shlaim, Emeritus Professor of International Relations, University of Oxford.

‘For those seeking deeper context and clarity on the Israel-Palestine crisis. . .Policy of Deceit is the work of a lifetime.’ TLS, Books of the Year.
