Lit & Phil Members’ Christmas Gathering
An informal evening with refreshments and live music from highly regarded local jazz pianist Alan Law, a stalwart of the North East scene. Don’t miss this chance to socialise with fellow members and friends of the society.
“Music will be provided by highly regarded local jazz pianist Alan Law, a stalwart of the North East scene. Having trained classically in his home town of Rye in Sussex, Alan’s talent for playing by ear led him first to blues and rock ’n roll before arriving at his true vocation. A veteran of Friday night sessions at the old Jazz Cafe in Pink Lane, Alan is in constant demand for his nuanced, lyrical and sympathetic style influenced by Monty Alexander, Gene Harris, Ruben Gonzalez and Ahmad Jamal. He is currently working with the Ruth Lambert Quartet, the Alexia Gardner quintet, trumpeter Pete Tanton’s Chet Set, and Lindsay Hannon’s ’Tom Waits for No Man’. In addition, his flair for Latin music finds regular expression with local band, the Cuban Heels. No stranger to performing at the Lit & Phil, we are delighted that he will be with us for our Christmas celebration.”
