Events List
Thursday 16th January 2025 | 7:00 pm to 9:00 pm
A LIVE Lit & Phil Event | £3
Thursday 16th JANUARY 2025 | 7pm
At the event, we’ll hear from Sue Brunning about her contributions to the book, her work as curator at the British Museum, and, alongside images from the exhibition, a new understanding of a critical period of culture and world history.
The term ‘Silk Road’ conjures a range of romantic images. Camel caravans crossing desert dunes. Merchants trading silk and spices. Far-flung commerce between ‘East’ and ‘West’. The reality was far richer. This ground-breaking new publication by the British Museum Press challenges
the modern popular concept of the ‘Silk Road’, exploring the movement of people, objects and ideas that shaped cultures and histories. Accompanied by a major exhibition, Silk Roads, which opened at the British Museum in September 2024, we are thrilled to welcome one of its curators to discuss their new book in person.
Published by The British Museum Press: a publisher of award-winning illustrated books for general readers, families, academics, and students. Inspired by the famous collections of the British Museum, their titles range across the fine and decorative arts, history, archaeology, and world cultures.
