In this lecture, a team from the Vindolanda Trust will discuss the importance of exploring the archaeology of Hadrian’s Wall through the lens of social sciences. Bethany Goodman, Vindolanda’s Archivist, will then introduce one of the Trust’s current projects: to catalogue and digitise an extensive collection of photographs taken by Charlie Anderson throughout his almost 50-year career working as a stonemason on Hadrian’s Wall. Depicting archaeological work as well as the archaeologists themselves, these images provide great potential for research into the social history of archaeology of the Wall.
