Demi-paradise presents readings of three ghostly tales - classic and modern.
Demi-paradise entertained a full house at the Lit & Phil last autumn with ‘Haunted: Ghost Story Readings for Halloween’. The professional actor/readers return with another exciting line up of great ghost stories.
The arrival of motor vehicles on British roads at the beginning of the 20th century gave rise to considerable public apprehension. Edith Nesbit creatively explored these fears in her original and humane tale of The Violet Car, read here by Penelope McDonald.
An amateur archaeologist’s discoveries provoke dire consequences when the dead are disturbed in A View from a Hill by MR James, read by Stephen Tomlin. An idyllic rural west country in mid-summer is the setting for this suspenseful tale from the master of the macabre.
We finish with The Executor, which bears all the hallmarks of Muriel Spark’s darkly comic style and she entertains magnificently with a satiric tale of literary deception. Narrated by Penelope McDonald.
