An illustrated talk by
Gail Nina Anderson
The Holly and The Ivy
Not all our popular Christmas imagery relates to Santa Claus or the Nativity – we decorate our trees, kiss under the mistletoe and deck the hall with boughs of holly.
This illustrated talk catches the spirit of the season by looking at the symbolism, folklore and visual history of the plants and animals that have been absorbed into our festive winter traditions, with examples from the mediaeval to the modern greetings card.
