From its inception, the Lit & Phil was at the forefront of innovation in the North of England.
Members included many enquiring minds who would demonstrate their inventions and ideas to the Society. Members such as George Stephenson, and later Joseph Wilson Swan and Lord Armstrong.
This tour looks at examples of those innovations, the people behind them and some of the places where they worked.
Tours start at the Lit & Phil, finish at The Guildhall on the Quayside and last approximately 1 hour 30 minutes.
Numbers are limited so please reserve a place.
As a member you can borrow most books published after 1850 (but not all at once). You can also access wi-fi in the Library and benefit from priority booking at some events. By joining the Lit & Phil, you are also supporting this wonderful institution, so thank you!
Check if we have that book you've been looking for. You don't need to be a member to search the catalogue; search by title, author, keyword or subject. Members can then reserve the book to collect later.
