Michael Woods is a solo acoustic Fingerpicking, Ragtime Bottleneck & Blues Guitarist based in the North East of England with four well received albums under his belt. His inspirations include Blind Blake, Blind Boy Fuller, Willie McTell, Fred McDowell & Rory Gallagher.
His first album won him a place in the final of Guitarist’s Acoustic Guitarist of the Year Competition at Wembley. Fingerpicking, Ragtime, Bottleneck & Blues (2008) was commented on by Acoustic Magazine 'Might on this evidence give some of our transatlantic cousins a run for their money… ...His powerful picking really shines on a whole shackload of classic blues'. Michael then wrote an album of completely original guitar instrumentals inspired by the North East of England called East Coast Fret described by R2 as 'An album possessed of a bucketload of class'.
His subsequent CD 'Bottleneck Ahead' was 'recommended' by Blues Matters! and one track was chosen as one of the Blues is Back radio show picks from the blues albums of 2016 Fateamagazine described Michael as 'one of today’s most inspirational performers ploughing this rootsy furrow'.
He is currently working on a new album of completely original material
Recent blues festival appearances include :Durham & Cleethorpes, Skegness Colne and Southport where he was described as the 'final bit of icing on the Atkinson’s cake' (Blues in Britain).He will be playing at the Southport blues festival for a second time in October 2018.
