The date was November 13, 1967. The occasion was the award to Martin Luther King of an Honorary Doctorate in Civil Law by the University of Newcastle upon Tyne. The place was the elegant, wood-panelled King’s Hall in the University’s Armstrong Building, where more than 400 students and staff gathered with a range of civic dignitaries eager to see - and hoping to hear - one of the most iconic figures of modern history. Join Professor Brian Ward to find out more about Martin Luther King’s visit to Newcastle.
