Recorded music
The card catalogue for recorded music is situated in front of the main desk within the library. Having found the item you wish to borrow on the white card catalogue, bring the matching coloured card to the desk and a member of staff will get the item for you. The different colours of the cards are: green for music; pink for spoken word; blue for DVD and video; and yellow for CD-ROM. A member of staff will be happy to go through this system with you.
Printed music and related material
The printed music, books on music and biographies of musicians are shelved upstairs in the Committee Room, and are available on an open access basis. The collection can be referred to via the online catalogue (Main Collection) and members should bring the items they wish to borrow to be issued at the desk.
Music periodicals are kept in the main library, and back copies are available for loan.
Making requests
Members of the Music Library (Gramophone members) may request CDs, scores and music books for the library. To request a CD, enter its details, together with a reference for a review, in the members’ recommendations book kept on top of the recorded music card catalogue. To request a score or miniature score, the same system applies, except the details are to be entered into the recommendations book for scores, which is kept on top of the printed music card catalogue in the Committee Room. To request a book on music or biography of a musician, fill in one of the request cards available at the main desk.
