As a member of the Lit and Phil you can borrow most of our books published after 1850. Check below how many books you are entitled to borrow. You can renew books over the phone, by email, or in person, at no charge.
If members can supply an email address, we will notify you of imminent events, enabling you to make an early reservation.
Each member will receive a newsletter four times a year.
It’s easy to become a member of the Lit and Phil library and you can borrow books/CDs as soon as you join. We offer reduced rates for payment by Direct Debit, which can be paid annually, quarterly or in 10 monthy installments. All memberships are per annum.

The Library
Ordinary Membership - £92/£88*
May borrow 8 books at one time.
Family Membership – two adults and children under 18 £129/£124*. May borrow 10 books at one time, plus an additional book for each child under 18.
Associate Membership - anyone under the age of 25 £45/£43*. May borrow 4 books at one time.
Student Membership - anyone in full-time study £36/£34*, May borrow 4 books at any time.
Please bring in either a student union card or a matriculation card. This concession is available for a maximum of three years per person.
Junior Membership - anyone under the age of 18 £12/£11. May borrow 3 books at one time.

Additional Gramophone Membership £28/£27* for existing book members.
Gramophone Only Membership (Adults) – £63/£61*, may borrow up to five records, CDs or opera videos at a time, and musical scores.
