Birds of the Derwent Valley Book Cover

Sunday 21st April | 9:30 am to 11:30 am

Join ornithologist and Lit & Phil member Michael Turner to learn the basics of birdwatching.

Situated in the Lower Derwent Valley this rich landscape of woodland, meadows, riverside and historic monuments is home to a variety of birds including green woodpecker, kingfisher, dipper and of course the iconic red kite. In spring the songs of migrant warblers can be heard throughout the woods while flocks of martins, swallows and swifts swoop over the imposing Nine Arches Viaduct

The walk will be on regular footpaths with some slight gradients. Please bring binoculars if you have them and dress appropriately with stout footwear. Sorry no dogs.

Meet in the overflow car park (to the left as you enter) of the Land of Oak and Iron Heritage Centre situated on the A694 at Winlaton Mill. Parking is free. Refreshments available at Café Shrub.
