Matthew Forster is a graduate of the Jazz, Popular and Commercial Music BMus (Hons) degree programme established by Dr James Birkett. Following a further period of study at the Royal Birmingham Conservatoire, during which he had the good fortune to study with several internationally renowned tutors, Matt returned to Tyneside to embark upon a career in music education.

Tenor saxophonist Matt can be heard in numerous ensembles including Ponyland and the Strictly Smokin’ Big Band. For his Jazz at the Lit & Phil debut, Matt will be joined by his regular bandmates – Ben Lawrence (piano), John Pope (double bass), Adam Stapleford (drums) – in a concert performance of engaging original compositions.
