H.E. Bates: The Man Who Made Pop Larkin

by Vicky Wicks

Members priority until 7th May

Actress Victoria Wicks talks about her grandfather, H.E. Bates, author of the much loved novels, Fair Stood the Wind for France, Love for Lydia and The Darling Buds of May, and his non fiction collections of essays on the English countryside, Through the Woods and Down the River.

Victoria traces his family roots, his struggles as a young writer, his wartime service in the RAF, and how his love of the countryside and nature saved his life, with family photographs and a short film compiled from home cine footage of the author and his family at home in Kent.
